Ride, Run, or Walk for Cancer Research at the Curebound Cancer Challenge

San Diego comes together for a lot of great events, but this one carries a different kind of weight. The Curebound Cancer Challenge – formerly known as Padres Pedal the Cause – returns to UC San Diego for a full day of movement, community, and purpose.

Since launching, the event has united more than 20,000 participants and raised $24.5 million, with 100% of every participant-raised dollar going directly to cancer research at San Diego’s leading institutions.

Curebound Cancer Challenge

Something for Everyone on the Course

Whether you’re clipping into a road bike or lacing up for a casual 5K, there’s a way in. Cyclists can choose from 25, 55, or 75-mile routes along the scenic Torrey Pines coastline. Runners and walkers can join the 10K or family-friendly 5K. Kids are welcome in the 5K too.

Prefer to stay on campus? Spin classes, yoga, and strength training are all on the schedule. You can also volunteer or simply show up to cheer.

A Finish Line Worth Celebrating

The finish line experience runs from 11 AM to 4 PM and it’s a good one. Expect live music, a Kid Zone with putt-putt and a scavenger hunt, a premium food spread from UC San Diego featuring tacos, Hawaiian food, and healthy options, plus craft beer and beverages from Coronado Brewing Company and JuneShine.

The Honor Wall and Survivor Bell offer a moment to pause and recognize loved ones and survivors – it’s one of the most meaningful parts of the day.

The Research Behind the Ride

Curebound received 186 letters of intent from 69 research teams this year – a 21% increase and an all-time record. The funds raised at this event directly determine how much of that pipeline gets funded.

Their model works: a $250,000 Discovery Grant to Dr. Hojun Li at UC San Diego helped unlock nearly $8.6 million in additional funding for pediatric leukemia research – a 34-fold return that is advancing safer treatments for children with leukemia.

See you there!

This is one of San Diego’s most meaningful days of the year. Come ride, run, walk, or cheer for research that is changing lives.
