San Diego’s Black Arts & Culture District Brings First Ever ‘Daygo Eatz’ Event

Encanto, San Diego’s vibrant Black Arts & Culture District, is set to come alive with the inaugural Daygo Eatz! Organized by The Mental Bar, and Black San Diego, Daygo Eatz promises to be a dynamic celebration of community, resilience, and local talent.

Daygo Eatz

Daygo Eatz will transform nine blocks, spanning one mile of Encanto’s streets, and spill into the adjacent Marie Widman Memorial Park.

The event aims to revitalize the spirit of the community and honor its rich cultural heritage while providing a platform for local businesses and artists to showcase their products and talents.

The event will feature a dynamic mix of activities, including a street fair with pop-ups from local vendors, an art walk, and live entertainment.

Expect to experience the vibrancy of Encanto through displays from local artists, spoken word performances, and engaging discussions on health and wellness.

“At its core, Daygo Eatz is about activating our community, fostering connections, and supporting our small, local businesses,” said Tommy Walker, owner of The Mental Bar.

“Encanto has faced challenges, including recent devastating floods, but through events like this, we come together to rebuild, celebrate, and uplift one another.”

Two prominent health-focused groups, Movement Matters Collective and Fit, Black, and Educated, Inc., will host activities in Marie Widman Memorial Park, emphasizing the importance of holistic well-being within the community.

Daygo Eatz also serves as a tribute to Black History Month, highlighting the invaluable contributions of Encanto’s Black community to the cultural tapestry of San Diego, while fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of Black culture and heritage.

The event will also offer you the opportunity to stand in solidarity with the community and directly support and uplift the businesses within the Encanto neighborhood.

Black San Diego

“We aim to revive the spirit of community events like the Encanto Street Fair, which once thrived in our neighborhood,” Walker explained. “Daygo Eatz represents our commitment to bringing back fun, community-driven gatherings that celebrate our heritage and foster connections.”

See you there!

The event, happening Saturday, February 18, from 12 PM to 4:45 PM, is open to all members of the community and promises to be an inclusive and enriching experience for all ages.
