Earth Day With a Twist – Sips & Science is Coming to the San Diego Botanic Garden

If you’re looking for a reason to celebrate Earth Day that goes beyond the usual, the San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas has something worth clearing your Wednesday evening for.

San Diego Botanic Garden Earth Day Event

A Garden That’s More Than Just a Pretty Backdrop

Spanning 37 acres in the heart of Encinitas, the San Diego Botanic Garden is home to over 5,300 plant species – and holds the title of largest public bamboo collection in North America. It’s the kind of place that makes you realize just how much is growing, quite literally, right in our backyard.

Botanical Research, a Drink in Hand, and Good Company

Sips & Science is a recurring evening series designed to make plant science approachable and genuinely interesting for adults. The format is refreshingly simple: a relaxed setting, a drink to sip on, and a conversation that might just shift the way you think about plants and the planet.

This Earth Day edition features Todd Michael, Chief Science Officer at SDBG and Research Professor at the Salk Institute, who’ll be sharing how botanical research is shaping our world. Whether you’re a longtime garden enthusiast or just plant-curious, this is the kind of talk that doesn’t require a science degree to appreciate.

Connecting With the Garden’s Bigger Mission

Beyond the talk itself, the evening is a chance to plug into the garden’s conservation and sustainability work – the research happening right here in San Diego that contributes to how we understand and protect plant life on a global scale.

Tickets start at $18 for members and $25 for non-members, making it an easy yes for a Wednesday night well spent.

See you there!

Head over to the San Diego Botanic Garden this Earth Day for an evening that’s equal parts enlightening and enjoyable – we’ll see you in the garden.
