The 10th Annual Festival of Lights, the Celebration of Culture
Get excited for the 10th annual cultural celebration, the Festival of Lights, hosted by the San Diego Indian American Society!
The Festival of Lights showcases the cultural variations of different parts of India, including dances, lights, and food.
Follow is a short description of the significance of lamps in India: “A symbol of Surya (Sun) and Agni (fire), the lamp plays a very important role in life in India. It is an essential form of worship believed to carry one’s prayer to God. At every stage of life therefore, lamps are lit to celebrate eternal life force. Indian philosophy calls the soul a self-lighted torch. “The flame of the lamp is likened to the Supreme Self”.”
The Festival of Lights attracted thousands of people each year. This year, the festival is held on October 14th, in the Historic Balboa Park.
At the festival, there will be local Indian restaurants serving food from various parts of India, and Henna artists to decorate your hands in beautiful, cultural patterns.
