GXRLS ROCK! Celebrates a Decade of Empowering Young Musicians

Something incredible happens when you give young people instruments, a supportive space, and the freedom to create. For the past ten years, GXRLS ROCK! San Diego Summer Camp has been proving this point, and we’re thrilled to see them hitting this major milestone.

GXRLS ROCK

A Week That Changes Everything

Happening at Montgomery Middle School in Linda Vista, the weeklong camp welcomes girls and non-binary youth ages 8 to 17 who are ready to dive into the world of music.

What makes this program special isn’t just the instrument lessons or songwriting workshops—it’s the transformation that happens when young people discover their creative voices.

Over five days, campers form bands, learn instruments (even if they’ve never touched one before), and write original songs with guidance from local San Diego artists who serve as staff.

The energy is infectious, and the confidence-building is real. Since launching in 2015, the program has fostered 65 bands and 65 original songs, creating a legacy of youth expression that keeps growing.

“This milestone year marks a decade of inspiring creativity, confidence, and collaboration through music, and we couldn’t be more excited,” says Camp Founder Melissa Grove. The program provides all the gear needed, making music accessible regardless of experience level or background.

The Big Finale

All that creativity and hard work leads to something pretty amazing—a live showcase at Music Box in Downtown San Diego on Saturday, June 14 at 11 AM.

We’ve seen these performances before, and they’re genuinely inspiring. There’s something powerful about watching young musicians perform songs they wrote themselves, surrounded by family, friends, and community members who believe in their potential.

“The Camper Showcase is such a special part of camp,” Grove explains. “It’s incredible to see what these young musicians create in just five days.” The 10th anniversary show promises extra flair to honor this milestone, making it an event worth attending whether you’re connected to the camp or simply love supporting young talent.

Making It Accessible

GXRLS ROCK! San Diego Summer Camp costs $450, but organizers are committed to ensuring access for everyone. They offer full and partial scholarships for families who need them, because they understand that financial barriers shouldn’t keep passionate young musicians from participating.

They’re also looking for volunteers and paid staff members who want to be part of this dynamic program.

See you there!

The showcase is open to everyone, and tickets are just $12. Come celebrate a decade of young voices finding their power through music.
