San Diego’s Coming Together for Foster Youth at This Free Liberty Station Festival

May is Foster Care Awareness Month, and Just in Time for Foster Youth (JIT) is marking it with something worth showing up for. Liberty Station’s Central Promenade hosts the free “Igniting HOPE, Building CommUNITY Family & Friends Festival.”

Just in Time Foster Youth Organization

What It’s All About

JIT supports young adults who age out of the foster care system at 18 without a family safety net. This festival connects them with people, organizations, and services that can help them find stable footing – and invites the broader San Diego community to be part of that effort.

Around 40 nonprofit organizations will be on-site, covering housing, job training, mental health support, financial literacy, health services, and education. Whether you’re looking for resources, exploring volunteer opportunities, or just want to show up and learn more, there’s a place for you here.

A Lineup Worth Showing Up For

San Diego-based artist Divina Jasso performs live, and magician The Amazing Dana keeps things entertaining. There are also yoga sessions, an open-air glam booth, and two JIT youth speakers sharing their personal stories.

On the food side, Dirty Birds, Born in Brooklyn, Dilly’s Ice Cream, and Juicy Shawarma will all be on-site. Not a bad spread for a free afternoon out.

Organizations and Community, Side by Side

Groups like Promises2Kids, Urban Street Angels, the YMCA, Doors of Change, and Kitchens for Good will be actively engaging with attendees. It’s a great chance to meet the people behind these organizations and find out how to get involved.

The bigger goal is coordination – getting nonprofits connecting with each other and building the kind of collaborative network that creates real, lasting change for foster youth in San Diego.

See you there!

A free Saturday afternoon, good food, live entertainment, and a chance to connect with the community – this one’s easy to get behind. Hope to see you out there
