Jimbo’s Del Mar Highlands Town Center Hosts Grand Opening Event And Opens Doors To New Store

San Diego County’s premier natural food store, Jimbo’s will officially open the doors of its new Carmel Valley location at the Del Mar Highlands Town Center on Wednesday, September 18.

Jimbo’s will host a grand opening ceremony at 10 a.m., which will include a ribbon cutting and remarks from the founder, Jim “Jimbo” Someck, local Jimbo’s food vendors, the Surfrider Foundation, and a loyal and longtime customer. Entertainment will include a spoken word performance by San Diego artist, Gill Sotu .

First 50 customers gets a bag filled with gifts

The doors will open to the new store following the ribbon cutting ceremony and Sotu’s performance. There will be many in-store specials and promotions at the grand opening, including the first 50 customers on opening day will receive a reusable Jimbo’s bag filled with over $200 worth of product.

The first plastic-free water aisle grocery store on the West Coast

The Jimbo’s Del Mar Highlands Town Center store will introduce the brand’s fresh new look and elevated shopping experience, including the removal of all single use plastic water bottles—making Jimbo’s at Del Mar Highlands Town Center the first plastic free water aisle grocery store on the West Coast.

Jimbo’s water aisle will include an art display by San Diego local artist, Janis Shelby Jones, along with a message from Jimbo about the importance of protecting our environment. To encourage using reusable water bottles, the new Jimbo’s location will have a refillable water station that will allow every customer to replenish their single use reusable bottles for free.

When using the refillable water station, customers will have the option to donate to one of Jimbo’s non-profit partners, Surfrider Foundation, a local San Diego organization that works to protect the enjoyment of the world’s ocean, waves and beaches through a powerful activist network.

“I have thought about doing a plastic free water aisle for some time now. And even though we sell a tremendous amount of plastic water bottles, we know eliminating them is the right thing to do. It would be easier to not take this step, but we always want to walk our talk. At Jimbo’s, we always consider financial impact, but we believe that should not be the only basis, nor the most important when making decisions. That’s the difference here at Jimbo’s, we always want to do the right thing, and I know this is the right thing to do—for our planet, for our oceans, for our landfills and for our future generations,” said Jim “Jimbo” Someck, founder of Jimbo’s.

“On Wednesday, September 18, when we open our doors, our new Jimbo’s brand will be revealed. Our customers will get to experience our fresh, new look and feel. I’ve been excited to share the elevated shopping and dining experience we’re creating at this new location with our customers, employees, vendors, partners and community. We hope to bring these new elements to all our Jimbo’s stores, while also continuing to always do the right thing along the way.”

Organic produce, organic bulk bins, organic salad bar

The new Del Mar Highlands Town Center store is 10,000 square feet larger than Jimbo’s previous Carmel Valley location and offers a convenient new parking garage located right next to the new store. In addition to Jimbo’s 100 percent organic produce, the new Del Mar Highlands Town Center location will also have 100 percent organic bulk bins and a 100 percent organic salad bar, indoor and outdoor dining and an expanded food service offering.

The food service run will have a larger selection of made from scratch take home meal options, a pizza station; taco, Mediterranean and olive bars; an enhanced juice and coffee bar and more. Jimbo’s at the Del Mar Highlands Town Center will be the first Jimbo’s to package all its fresh juice in glass bottles—implementing another initiative to eliminate the use of plastic.

All Jimbo’s items in its food service run are made with organic ingredients whenever possible. The new store will be more than a destination to pick up your groceries, it’ll serve as a community gathering space—offering plenty of places to sit and enjoy a meal or cup of coffee, or a great meeting place for friends.

Special offers, prizes, and product sampling await

In honor of the opening, Jimbo’s will offer specials, prizes and product sampling the first week of opening its doors. For the first five days, customers will have the opportunity to enter to win a Jimbo’s reusable bag filled with $200 worth of products—10 winners will be selected each day. Other opening week promotions will be announced in the upcoming weeks.

In recognition of Jimbo’s expansion, the Del Mar Highlands Town Center will present a check for $25,500 to local schools in support of youth education prior to the ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, September 18. The donation will be divided among 17 local schools in the Del Mar Union School District, San Dieguito Union High School District, and Solana Beach School District.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will start at 10 a.m. and doors will open immediately following on Wednesday, September 18. Jimbo’s at Del Mar Highlands Town Center address is 12841 El Camino Real, San Diego, Calif. 92130.
