Jimmy Carr Brings His Dark Comedy to Balboa Theatre
British comedian Jimmy Carr is bringing his latest stand-up show to San Diego‘s historic Balboa Theatre. The “Jimmy Carr: Laughs Funny” tour marks another stop for one of the world’s biggest-selling comedy acts, known for his rapid-fire delivery and notoriously dark sense of humor.
What to Expect
Carr’s comedy style centers on fast-paced, edgy one-liners that have built him a devoted following across the globe. His approach is straightforward about its divisive nature—some audiences are drawn to his dark brand of comedy, while others find it off-putting.
The comedian acknowledges this polarizing effect, describing jokes as magnets that both attract and repel different people.
This tour represents a significant milestone for Carr, as it marks his first time performing in arenas across the UK and Ireland. His previous world tour, “Terribly Funny,” demonstrated his global appeal by selling over 1.2 million tickets and visiting more than forty countries.
Beyond Stand-Up
Before the streaming era, Carr dominated the comedy DVD market with eight releases that collectively sold over 1.2 million copies. These performances are now available on his YouTube channel, which has accumulated over 1.1 million subscribers and 436 million views since its 2018 launch.
Carr has also ventured into publishing, co-writing “The Naked Jape: Uncovering the Hidden World of Jokes” in 2007 and releasing his memoir “Before & Laughter” in September 2021, which made The Sunday Times Bestsellers list.
