Dance Through 7 Styles in One Stunning Garden Setting
San Diego’s contemporary dance scene has a summer tradition worth knowing about. LITVAKdance returns to the gardens at ICA San Diego’s North Campus for the fourth installment of its popular outdoor performance series.
A Showcase Rooted in the Community
Dancing Outdoors: Take 4 puts a spotlight on dance companies and artists based in Encinitas, and the range is impressive. The lineup spans West African dance, Odissi, Ballet Folklórico, Polynesian/Contemporary, and more – seven styles in total.
Meet the Performers
LITVAKdance leads the bill alongside West African dance artist Daunté Nabi Fyall, Odissi dancer Shibani Patnaik, and Ballet Folklórico of San Diego. LITVAKdance alumni round out the lineup with Emily Miller and Ballet Collective San Diego, and Lemoe Mata’itusi performing a Polynesian/Contemporary piece.
The 8:15 PM show adds a burlesque set by Ashley Akhavan and Bella Lux Entertainment. Live music throughout the evening comes from Encinitas band, the Montalban Quintet.
More Than Just the Performance
ICA San Diego’s North Campus gardens make for an atmospheric backdrop – cocktail in hand, at your own pace. While you’re there, ICA’s current exhibition, Unfold Projects, is open to wander through.
