Toast the Giants Exhibit’s Final Weekend at MCASD
MCASD is sending off Giants: Art from the Dean Collection the right way. Joe Kay, founder of Soulection, is on the decks. DJ Sasha Marie curates the opener, and a full lowrider showcase parks out front all night.
For anyone who’s been meaning to catch Giants but hasn’t made it in yet, this is essentially the last call. The West Coast debut wraps that weekend, and this closing party is exactly the goodbye it deserves.

Joe Kay on the Decks, Lowriders out Front
The night is built as a multi-stage experience across MCASD. Sasha Marie kicks things off with a curated lineup before Joe Kay takes over as the headliner. Between sets, we can wander into the galleries, take one more slow lap through the collection, and step outside to check out the lowriders parked at the entrance.
If we’ve been trying to string together art, music, and community into one night, this is that night.
Lisane Basquiat on Legacy and Collecting
The evening also includes a conversation from ArtLeadHer, with independent curator Mashonda Tifrere moderating a talk with Lisane Basquiat, sister and co-administrator of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s estate. The conversation will dig into artistic legacy, private collecting, and how Black artists continue to shape contemporary culture.
Worth noting: Jean-Michel Basquiat’s “Untitled (Langston Hughes), 1983” is one of the works in Giants, so this hits especially close.
One Last Look at the Dean Collection
Giants pulls more than 100 works from the personal collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys, spotlighting leading Black artists and threading in themes of joy, resilience, identity, and legacy. Since the exhibit opened, it’s brought a wide swath of San Diego through MCASD’s doors.
Even better: the exhibit’s very last day comes with free admission all day, one final chance to walk through the collection before it goes.
