Movies in Memorial Brings Free Outdoor Cinema to Chula Vista
Downtown Chula Vista just launched something we’ve been hoping would happen—a proper outdoor movie series that doesn’t cost anything and actually shows films people want to see. Movies in Memorial is turning Memorial Park into our new favorite summer evening destination, and the lineup they’ve put together hits all the right notes.
The Setup That Works
Every other Saturday evening, the park transforms into an outdoor theater where you can spread out your blanket and settle in for movies that start around sunset.
It’s first come, first served seating, which means showing up a little early to claim your spot is probably smart, but also gives you time to explore what Downtown Chula Vista has to offer.
The movie selection shows they actually thought about their audience. The Goonies kicks things off on June 14, followed by The Secret Life of Pets, Selena, Nacho Libre, and Encanto.
It’s a mix that works for families, couples, and groups of friends—basically everyone who wants to spend a Saturday evening outside watching something entertaining.
Making It an Evening
What makes this work is the timing and location. Downtown Chula Vista has been building up its dining and nightlife scene, so you can easily grab dinner before the movie starts or stick around for drinks afterward.
