North Park’s First Juneteenth Block Party Celebrates Freedom Together

Louisiana Purchase is stepping up to co-host something truly special this year. The beloved neighborhood spot is partnering with High Definition Entertainment, Black San Diego, and the Harvey Family Foundation to present the North Park inaugural Juneteenth Community Block Party.

A Historic Day of Unity

This celebration goes beyond just another block party. Taking place at the corner of Louisiana Street and Wightman Street, the event powerfully promotes unity and celebrates Black excellence while honoring the significance of Juneteenth.

It’s exactly the kind of meaningful community gathering that makes North Park such a vibrant neighborhood.

Local Black-Owned Businesses Take Center Stage

One of the most exciting aspects is the spotlight on local Black-owned businesses. We’ll get to experience offerings from The Write Juice, Catchher Ice Cream, WakeUpCup, and many others.

The Vision Culture Foundation will add an artistic element with live art activations and a “Roots & Revival” Fashion Pop-up that sounds absolutely captivating.

Entertainment for Everyone

The lineup promises something for all ages and interests. Live music, a slam poetry spoken word showcase, and a DJ battle will keep the energy high throughout the afternoon.

Families can enjoy games and a dedicated kids zone, while influential Black leaders, including Monica Montgomery and Lefford Fate, will share their voices.

Louisiana Purchase as Your Block Party Hub

Louisiana Purchase transforms into the event’s beer garden, serving specialty cocktails that highlight Black-owned spirits like Anillos Mezcal and Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey. Chef Quinnton “Q” Austin will curate small bites that complement the celebration perfectly.

Chef Q’s story adds another layer of meaning to this event. His culinary journey began in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina, and today he extends far beyond serving Southern-style cooking to San Diego.

Through co-founding Bad Boyz of Culinary and collaborating with Black San Diego, he mentors the next generation of culinary talent while ensuring everyone has a seat at the table.

See you there!

We can’t wait to join Louisiana Purchase and the North Park community for this historic Juneteenth Community Block Party.
