Celebrate The Rich History Of SD’s Arts & Culture Scene At Queen Bee’s 15 Year Anniversary

Queen Bee’s Art and Culture Center, a community space and beacon for artists in North Park, is thrilled to celebrate its 15th anniversary at the forefront of San Diego’s vibrant arts and culture scene this year.

Queen Bee’s has served as a nurturing haven where artistry flourishes, allowing for creatives of all walks of life to come together to express their talents in a welcoming community.

Queen Bee’s 15 Year Anniversary: A Celebration to Remember

Since 2008, Queen Bee’s has faced many challenges and achievements, and now, the community is invited to commemorate this anniversary milestone with a celebration on Tuesday, December 12th at 12PM.

The donation-based community event will feature food and drinks, live performances from artists such as Rudy Francisco, Gilbert Castellanos and Gregory Page, along with a proclamation from San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria.

At 6PM, attendees are encouraged to grab their dancing shoes and participate in swing dancing classes featuring live swing music. The evening will be a night to remember!

“I’m honored to have reached this milestone,” said Alma Rodriguez. “It hasn’t always been easy, but I think we’ve built up something special at Queen Bee’s. I love that it’s not only a haven for so many different art forms, but that Queen Bee’s is also a place where people can meet and mingle and just have a good time. I hope that this party shows us off at our best as we prepare for all sorts of great happenings ahead. Come celebrate with us!”

A Journey of Resilience and Determination

The path to reaching the 15-year milestone for Alma and Queen Bee’s has been a challenging and inspiring journey. Amid the challenges of the COVID pandemic, countless local businesses found themselves grappling to stay afloat, and Queen Bee’s was no exception.

In the lead-up to the pandemic and throughout those trying times, there were moments when Alma struggled to pay the bills in time. However, her unwavering resilience and determination were the driving forces that enabled the business to persistently cultivate the arts and culture in San Diego.

A Testament to the Power of Arts and Community

Through hosting fundraisers, art auctions, and reaching out to her own community, Queen Bee’s not only survived, but thrived throughout the years. Now, 15 years later, Alma is eager to commemorate the resilience of the establishment as well as everyone who has contributed to its prosperity.

This special celebration stands as a testament to the lives touched and empowered by Queen Bee’s, as well as a hopeful glimpse into the future, showcasing how this cherished haven will continue to unite people through the love of the arts.

Schedule of Events

Following the opening reception at 12PM, there will be a Commemorative Ceremony at 1PM, where speakers will be sharing the journey to Queen Bee’s success, including a special proclamation from Mayor Todd Gloria acknowledging Queen Bee’s many contributions to the community and the city.

As a nod to the mission behind Queen Bee’s, there will be several live performances starting at 1:30PM from local spoken word poet Rudy Francisco, singer-songwriter and guitarist Gregory Page, jazz trumpeter Gilbert Castellanos, and acclaimed singer Mercedes Moore.

Following the celebration, attendees are invited to stay for the Tuesday night swing classes at 6PM where dancers of all levels are welcome to participate with live music from the Zzzymzzy Quartet starting. The donation-based event is open to the public and attendees must RSVP here.

See you there!

Queen Bee’s will be taking donations to be able to continue to support the arts for years to come. The swing class following the celebration will be $15 and tickets can be purchased here.
