Ripening Soon: A 6,700 Square Foot Experiential Installation Dedicated To The Avocado
We have to admit, when we first heard San Diego was getting an exhibit dedicated to the avocado, we weren’t quite sure what to think! But hey, we love avocados and we’re open-minded, so we’ll be there!
The CADO is a 6,700 square-foot exhibition that will take ticket holders inside of a California Avocado by way of multi-sensory art installations that delight all five senses. This immersive pop-up experience will be landing at San Diego’s Liberty Station from June to August this year.
A journey through the CADO
An elaborate mobile structure made out of 16 interconnected shipping containers, The CADO is entirely custom-built to the experience and inspired by the state of California’s iconic architecture, design and the striking hues of its famed landscapes.
First, ticket holders will embark on an experiential journey that starts outside of the fruit’s skin, travels through its green ombré-colored flesh and into the center of the fruit. Then, guests will learn about the California Avocado’s real-life uses as they freshen up and explore its beauty benefits inside a selfie-inspiring powder-room and browse the shelves of the futuristic, avocado-centric grocery store, The CADO General.
Experience highlights include:
Upon entering The CADO, ticket holders will see a Mid-century styled lobby with a soaring 40-foot wall of cassette tapes – just one of many unexpected (and photo- worthy) installations.
Listen to how a California Avocado goes from grove to grocer via a vintage Walkman.
Feel the textured walls, akin to avocado skin, in the ‘Ripe Room’ to discover how the density of a ripe avocado feels and trigger a door to the next installation.
Delight in the sweet fragrance of a grove of (actual) California Avocado trees.
Enjoy California-inspired avocado bites from local San Diego restaurants in an avocado grove.
Conceived by sisters Anne Buehner and Mary Carr, founders of & boom., The CADO is the culmination of their combined expertise in social media, creative strategy, event design and retail visuals.
See you there!
