What’s new with Rooftop Cinema Club

New for 2023 to give guests the most comfortable seating experience possible, Rooftop Cinema Club has done away with its adjustable deckchair lounge seats and the venue will now exclusively offer single and double (Loveseat) Adirondack chairs outfitted with plush seat cushions.

For moviegoers, Rooftop Cinema Club Embarcadero’s lineup is an eclectic mix of cult classics, recent releases and many of the most popular movies ever to appear on the big screen. A small sampling of the early season lineup includes the aforementioned Top Gun, its 2022 sequel Top Gun: Maverick, The Fablemans, Harry Potter and The Sorcerer’s Stone, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, The Hunger Games, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, E.T., Nope and more.

List of Themed screenings

Themed screenings and special events are one of the offerings that sets Rooftop Cinema Club apart, and the tradition will continue in 2023. For March and April, it includes celebrations of Hollywood on Hollywood following The Oscars, Women’s History Month, Anniversary Screenings and more. Details on all are below.

Hollywood on Hollywood

What better way to tell the stories of Hollywood and the City of Angels than movies themselves? That’s why following Hollywood’s biggest night in March (The Oscars on March 12), Rooftop Cinema Club will give a close-up to some of the best movies about La La Land with of course, La La Land and Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood on March 25.

Women’s History Month

For Women’s History Month, RCC is celebrating many of cinema’s pioneering women both in front of and behind the camera. This March collection will feature films by influential female directors, producers, writers and actors. Said lineup includes Domee Shi’s Turning Red (March 18), Gina Prince-Bythewood’s Love & Basketball (March 21), Meryl Streep in Mamma Mia! (March 24), Reese Witherspoon in Legally Blonde (March 26) and Alicia Silverstone in Clueless (March 29).

What A Feeling!

“What a feeling…Being’s believing…I can have it all…Now I’m dancing for my life!” Moviegoers should get their best moves ready because Rooftop Cinema Club is dedicating all of April to some of the most iconic dance movies to ever hit the big screen. It’s a dance-party lineup that includes Moulin Rouge! (April 5), Dirty Dancing and Magic Mike XXL (April 12), Flashdance and Step Up (April 19) and Chicago and Bring It On (April 26).

Y2K Tuesdays

Y2K is back and Rooftop Cinema Club is waxing nostalgic with a movie series dedicated to the calamity that was expected come the turn of the century. Every week in April, RCC will bring back all the turn-of-the-millennium style and vibes with Y2K Tuesdays, featuring some of its favorite movies that defined the era. Dressing to theme is highly encouraged, whether that’s rocking a velour tracksuit, pleated skirt ensemble or even wide-leg jeans with Heelys. The Y2K lineup includes Mean Girls (April 4), Miss Congeniality (April 11), Brown Sugar (April 18) and John Tucker Must Die (April 25).

Record Store Day

In honor of national Record Store Day on April 22, RCC is laying down the needle on some of the best, vinyl-loving nostalgia movies ever made with a lineup that features High Fidelity, Almost Famous and 500 Days of Summer.

People’s Choice: What a Feeling!

On April 3, RCC is going to give its guests the choice of which dance movie they’d like to see on the big screen at the Rooftop! They can vote for the movie with their favorite moves here. Voting closes March 16 and the winning film will be announced March 17. And as a way of saying “Thank You,” tickets for the screening of the winning film will only be $10!

The Sandlot 30th Anniversary

“You’re killing me Smalls!” This Rooftop staple and cinematic love letter to America’s favorite pastime is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, so whether having grown up loving The Sandlot or are new to its whimsical charm, there’s no better time to celebrate this classic than outside in the spring when it screens on April 8.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall 15th Anniversary

“You Sound Like You’re From London!” On April 19, Rooftop Cinema Club will screen Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Jason Segel’s hilarious ode to heartbreak for its 15th anniversary! A now who’s-who all-star cast of Segel, Kristen Bell, Russell Brand, Jonah Hill, Paul Rudd, Bill Hader and more inject what could be a downer into one of the funniest movies about rejection ever made!

Flashdance 40th Anniversary

What a feeling! Jennifer Beals! Those legwarmers! That water scene! Flashdance is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and RCC is making sure to honor it at the Rooftop with a special anniversary screening on April 19. There’s no better time than to experience one of the most iconic dance movies of all-time on the big screen!

4/20 Day

It’s California and it’s 4/20, so of course Rooftop Cinema Club’s dishing out a double-hit of the hilarious and classic stoner comedies, Dazed and Confused and This Is The End. Separate admission required.

“Wooftop” Cinema Club

For RCC’s “Wooftop” dog-friendly screenings, guests are invited to bring their furry friends along to the Rooftop. A special relief area is available and pet owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs. Also, dogs must be kept on a leash at all times. The March-April Wooftop lineup includes Puss In Boots: The Last Wish (March 19 and April 30), Pretty Woman (April 1) and Encanto (April 15).
