Young Voices, Big Dreams: San Diego Children’s Choir Celebrates 35 Years of Musical Magic
We love when San Diego comes together to celebrate something truly special, and the San Diego Children’s Choir’s 35th Anniversary Spring Concert is exactly that kind of moment. More than 300 young voices will fill the Jacobs Music Center, and we’re already getting goosebumps thinking about it.
A Legacy Worth Celebrating
This isn’t just any concert—it’s a tribute to Polly Campbell, the woman who saw a gap in San Diego’s music education landscape back in 1990 and decided to do something about it.
Campbell believed every kid deserved access to music, and her vision has now touched over 15,000 children across San Diego County. That’s the kind of impact that makes us proud to call this city home.
The evening will feature a newly commissioned piece by composer Joan Szymko, created specifically to honor Campbell’s incredible legacy. It’s these thoughtful touches that remind us why San Diego’s arts community is so tight-knit and supportive.
What to Expect
Picture this: voices ranging from 8 to 18 years old, performing everything from timeless classics to contemporary pieces in multiple languages. The San Diego Children’s Choir has always been about more than just beautiful music—they’re building future audiences and creating lifelong music lovers.
Current Executive Director Carrie Musick Cottriall puts it perfectly when she talks about celebrating not just this season, but “generations of young voices, their dedicated families, and the vibrant community that has supported SDCC for 35 years.” That community spirit is what we’re all about.

Beyond the Concert Hall
What we really appreciate about SDCC is how they show up for our entire community. They’re not just training advanced singers—they’re bringing early childhood music classes to families and working directly with Title I schools.
Plus, they regularly collaborate with heavy hitters like the San Diego Symphony and San Diego Opera, and they’re even heading to Carnegie Hall this summer. Not bad for a local choir, right?
The newly renovated Jacobs Music Center provides the perfect backdrop for this milestone celebration, and with tickets starting at just $18.50, it’s an accessible way to support youth arts in our city.
