Immerse Yourself in Scottish Heritage at the 50th Annual San Diego Highland Games

Five decades of Scottish heritage, athleticism, and community come together this summer as the San Diego Scottish Highland Games celebrate their 50th anniversary – and this year, they’re doing it in a brand new location.

Mission Valley River Park is the new home of the Games, bringing a more accessible, comfortable, and centrally located setting to one of San Diego’s most beloved cultural festivals.

A New Venue

The move to Mission Valley River Park is a significant one. The expansive setting offers more shade, abundant on-site parking with no shuttle required, and fully paved pathways throughout the grounds – making it easy to navigate for strollers, wheelchairs, and mobility devices.

The venue sits directly at the Stadium Trolley Station, providing convenient access via light rail and rideshare, and is located between Highways 8, 15, and 805 for easy driving access.

Numerous hotels and short-term rentals are nearby for anyone making a weekend of it.

Five Decades of Tradition All in One Place

All the beloved traditions that have defined the Games for generations are back for the 50th edition:

  • Heavy Athletics – including the iconic Caber Toss
  • Highland Dance Competitions – now held outdoors
  • Bagpipe and Drum Bands – performing throughout the day
  • Scottish Clans and Heritage Societies
  • Sheepdog Trials – a longtime crowd favorite
  • Celtic Vendors, Food, Beverages, and Kids’ Activities
