San Diego Seals Home Opener: The Electric Factory Gets Loud This Sunday
The San Diego Seals just won their season opener 16-13 in Ottawa, and now they’re bringing that momentum back to Pechanga Arena – aka “The Electric Factory” – for their home opener against the Rochester Knighthawks.
If you’ve never experienced National Lacrosse League action at The Electric Factory, this is your chance. It’s a matinee affair with a 2 PM faceoff, and it’s getting broadcast nationally on ESPN2 (streaming globally on ESPN+).
The Offense Is Clicking
The Seals scored 16 goals at Ottawa, and Tre Leclaire – healthy after battling injuries last season – exploded for five goals and four assists. Newcomers Corey Small (three goals, one assist), Connor Robinson (one goal, three assists), and Noah Armitage (two goals, two assists) made huge contributions in their debuts.
Trevor Baptiste, also back healthy after injuries, dominated the faceoff circle by winning 28 of 33 while scoring a goal after winning the faceoff to start the second period. When your faceoff specialist is controlling possession like that, it changes the entire flow of the game.
Rochester Brings Revenge Motivation
The Knighthawks went 10-8 last season and made the playoffs before getting eliminated in the first round. They won last season’s only meeting 14-13, with a goal scored with 11 seconds remaining after the Seals had erased a six-goal deficit to tie it late.
That kind of heartbreaker stays with you, and the Seals are definitely carrying revenge motivation into this matchup.
All-time, the Seals hold a 2-1 series edge over Rochester, with both San Diego wins coming at home (19-6 in 2020 and 17-14 in 2023). The Electric Factory advantage is real.
Roster Highlights
The team returns key players like captain Wes Berg (who ranked second in the NLL last season with 49 goals and 88 points), goaltender Chris Origlieri, faceoff specialist Trevor Baptiste, and forwards Pat Kavanagh, Tre Leclaire, and Ben McIntosh.
Newcomers Connor Robinson and Corey Small are already making an impact. Robinson tallied 67 points last season with Colorado, and Small had 51 points with Toronto. Small is also closing in on 1,000 career points (currently at 949).
Several milestones are on the horizon: Wes Berg needs 18 goals to reach 300 for his career and 16 points to hit 700. Trevor Baptiste needs 50 faceoff wins to reach 1,700 and 23 loose balls to hit 1,000 for his career.
