Orchids in the Wild Blooms at San Diego Botanic Garden This Spring

Spring in Encinitas is about to get even more colorful. The San Diego Botanic Garden is welcoming back its beloved annual orchid showcase with the return of Orchids in the Wild, a breathtaking exhibition celebrating the beauty and diversity of one of nature’s most fascinating flowers.

Taking over the Dickinson Family Education Conservatory, this immersive display invites us to explore orchids as they appear in their natural habitats, offering a serene and inspiring escape just north of San Diego.

A Stunning Celebration of Nature’s Most Exotic Blooms

Now in its sixth year, the Orchids Showcase transforms the Garden’s 8,000-square-foot Dickinson Family Education Conservatory into a lush, living landscape inspired by the environments where orchids naturally thrive.

Wander through mossy understories, tropical canopies, and vibrant ecosystems filled with hundreds of orchid species, rare plants, and locally bred hybrids.

Curated by Juan Solomon, Director of Horticulture at the San Diego Botanic Garden, the exhibition highlights selections from the Garden’s own collection alongside contributions from the San Diego County Orchid Society, the Palomar Orchid Society, and regional growers.

With orchids refreshed weekly, every visit offers something new to discover.

Beyond the blooms, the showcase offers opportunities to deepen your appreciation for these extraordinary plants. Throughout the exhibition, you can participate in hands-on classes and workshops designed for both beginners and seasoned plant enthusiasts.

Each weekend, a special orchid marketplace will feature a curated selection of orchids, houseplants, and plant-inspired goods from local vendors. It’s the perfect place to find a unique addition to your collection or a thoughtful gift for a fellow plant lover.

The Garden will also host special experiences tied to the exhibition, including an exclusive Members Preview and a 21+ evening event, Orchids at Night.
