The Artist Is Not Alone Brings San Diego’s Creative Community Together
There’s something special happening at Bread & Salt in Barrio Logan, and it’s exactly what the name suggests – a space where artists, makers, and dreamers can gather and remember they’re not doing this alone.
The Artist Is Not Alone is part art experience, part community gathering, and entirely about connection in a world that often feels isolating.
An Interactive Evening in Two Parts
The night starts with a cocktail hour that’s anything but passive. You can create music with local producers, write and talk literature with award-winning poets, or shoot film portraits with friends.
It’s the kind of evening where you might walk in solo and leave with new collaborators, creative sparks, or just some really good conversations with people who get it.
The space will showcase work from some of San Diego’s most interesting artists, including pinup photographer and DJ Susana Vestige, visual artist and photographer Sarah Shreves, and photographer Mstah Freeze.
And if small talk isn’t your thing, guided conversation prompts help ease everyone into sharing stories and discussing the creative work that actually matters to them.
Or you can simply vibe out while DJs spin tracks designed to cure sadness, snack on food from Hell Yeah Helena!, and sip on STRIVE Soda. It’s all ages, 21+ to drink.

Performances That Hit Different
After the cocktail hour wraps, the evening shifts to featured performances from acclaimed spoken word poet Ajanaé Dawkins and emerging singer/songwriter Shua. Both artists explore themes of finding beauty in lonely times, which feels particularly relevant right now.
Following the performances, there’s a panel discussion about how making and experiencing art can ease isolation by connecting us to each other and something deeper.
Shop, Support, Connect
Throughout the night, Sunsets & Brainwaves will be doing live screen printing with limited edition shirts, and Pearl Vintage and Jon Doe Co are setting up a his and hers pop-up vintage shop.
There’s also a community table with info on other creative events happening around San Diego, because one night of connection should lead to more.
Half of the proceeds go to Monarch School, which partners with unhoused students in San Diego and Tijuana – a reminder that creativity and community support go hand in hand.
