ART GARDEN Brings Art, Storytelling, and Community Care to UCSD Park & Market
Vanguard Culture and the UC San Diego Craft Center are coming together for ART GARDEN: A Communal Offering of Art, Storytelling, Dance & Community Care – an evening designed to connect creativity with compassion.
Taking place at UCSD Park & Market, this gathering blends visual art, live performance, and hands-on activities while also marking the national launch of the Jimi Appleseed Initiative, a cultural storytelling movement rooted in sustainability, shared humanity, and collective wisdom.

A Local Event With National Reach
Launching from San Diego, ART GARDEN will be streamed live with interactive participation from 8 to 12 communities across the United States. The result is a real-time national storytelling experience that still feels grounded in local voices and connection.
The evening invites us to slow down, engage, and share space with one another through creative expression.
Purchase a Bowl. Sow a Seed.
One of the most meaningful elements of the event is simple and tangible. Make a $15 donation and receive a handmade ceramic bowl created by artists at the UC San Diego Craft Center.
Proceeds directly benefit the San Diego Rescue Mission, helping provide nourishing meals for neighbors in need. You’re also encouraged to bring unexpired canned goods to further support the cause.
What to Expect
ART GARDEN weaves together multiple art forms throughout the evening, creating a dynamic and immersive experience.
Highlights include:
- Invisible Nation: Portraits of the Unhoused, an exhibition by artist Neil Shigley
- The national launch of the Jimi Appleseed Initiative
- Live theatre by Blindspot Collective
- Live dance by Culture Shock San Diego
- Interactive springtime art and storytelling activities by Storytellers of San Diego
More than a performance series, this is a space to spark conversation, practice empathy, and reconnect through shared stories. The focus is on community care as much as creative expression.
See you there!
