Violent Femmes Kick Off 45th Anniversary Tour in Del Mar

Violent Femmes are hitting the road to celebrate 45 years of making music that doesn’t fit neatly into any category, and the West Coast tour kicks off right here in Del Mar at The Sound.

If you grew up listening to “Blister in the Sun” or discovered them later through one of the countless artists they’ve influenced, this is a chance to see a band that’s still as defiant and joyful as they were when they started busking on Milwaukee streets in 1981.

Violent Femmes in Del Mar

The Band That Redefined Folk-Punk

Violent Femmes flipped the music world sideways with their raw, acoustic-driven self-titled debut album – a record that went platinum without ever cracking the Billboard Top 200. That alone tells you something about how they operate.

Their sound blends street-corner folk with punk snarl, creating something that influenced generations of artists while building a fiercely loyal fanbase that’s stuck around for over four decades.

Tracks like “Blister in the Sun,” “Add It Up,” and their deep cuts have become part of the alternative music DNA. They’ve built one of the most unpredictable and enduring careers in the genre – part punk sermon, part folk jam, and all attitude.

The fact that “Blister in the Sun” showed up in Netflix’s 2025 series “Four Seasons” proves they’re still culturally relevant, not just nostalgia acts trading on past glory.

What to Expect From the Tour

The “45 Years of Violent Femmes” tour promises their greatest hits, deep cuts, and fan favorites, all delivered with that unfiltered acoustic bite that made them legendary in the first place. They’re still selling out venues on each tour, which means the energy hasn’t faded – if anything, 45 years of experience has probably sharpened it.

The West Coast run hits iconic venues along the way: Majestic Ventura Theater, two nights at The Guild Theatre in Menlo Park, and wraps up at Channel 24 in Sacramento. But it starts here in Del Mar, which gives San Diego the first shot at this anniversary celebration.

True Originals Don’t Fade

After 45 years of defying expectations and igniting generations, Violent Femmes prove that bands who create something genuinely original don’t just fade away – they keep playing, keep evolving, and keep drawing crowds who want to experience that raw energy live.

Whether you’ve been following them since the ’80s or you’re newer to their catalog, seeing them perform is different from streaming their albums. The acoustic setup, the crowd participation, the chaos – it’s designed for live performance.

Tickets are on sale now, and VIP packages will be available if you want to upgrade the experience beyond just general admission.

See you there!

Grab your tickets, get to The Sound, and witness 45 years of musical mayhem from a band that’s never played by anyone’s rules but their own.
