Your Guide To This Week’s North County Concerts
North County is getting jammy this week. From a Grateful Dead tribute band to a late ‘80s touring jam band, these venues have a variety of groups for you. And isn’t spontaneous variety what jamming is all about?
Jason Lee & The R.I.P.tides – 3/31
The Pour House
Oceanside
Jason Lee is one of San Diego’s top surf rock guitarists. A champion of surf guitar and ‘60s instrumental music, Lee has been filling YouTube with instructional videos to keep the genres alive.
The band even appeared in the surf rock documentary Reverb Junkies which examines the third wave of surf music culture.
Here’s your chance to experience the third wave of surf rock for yourself. Don’t miss out.
Ben Limpic – 3/31
Brick 15
Del Mar
Part of the West Coast indie rock scene, Ben Limpic’s contemplative songs explore love and life. Having spent his formative years in North County San Diego, Limpic embodies the Southern California aesthetic.
Catch Limpic in his old stomping grounds before he mozies on to greener pastures.
Leftover Salmon – 4/1
The Belly Up
Solana Beach
Hailing from Boulder, Colorado, Leftover Salmon has been a jamming since 1989. Playing what the band refers to as “Polyethnic Cajun Slamgrass,” Leftover Salmon hops between bluegrass, rock, country and Cajun.
You may have caught Leftover Salmon on an episode of Deadliest Catch – After the Catch as the Whales Tail Bar house band in Breckenridge, CO.
You don’t have to trek out to Colorado to enjoy these jams—just head over to The Belly Up on Saturday.
Easy Wind – 4/1
Mr. Peabody’s Bar and Grill
Encinitas
In the same vein as Leftover Salmon, Easy Wind thinks that music is meant to be a collaborative and innovative effort. That’s why you’ll hear Easy Wind playing tunes from The Grateful Dead’s catalogue for eager listeners.
So come with me, or go alone, but Easy Wind has come to take its children home.
The Strangers and Contrafunkdus-9 – 4/1
Aztec Brewing Company
Vista
Acoustic Pop sound like your kind of music? Then The Strangers have some songs for you. If you’re looking for jammy songs with catchy melodies, Aztec Brewery will provide.
Contrafunkdus-9 is a group formed on the campus of Cal State San Marcos. Playing a fusion of funky jazz and jazzy funk, Contrafunkdus-9 strives to deliver good music for good people. How can you say, “No” to that?
