Swing Into Saturday Night With the Zzymzzy Quartet at Panama 66
Balboa Park has a way of making any evening feel a little more special, and a free night of live manouche swing on the patio at Panama 66 is exactly the kind of thing we clear our schedules for.
The Zzymzzy Quartet is bringing their signature sound to one of San Diego’s favorite outdoor venues, and it’s a show that has you grinning before the first song is even over.

The Sound That Takes You Back – In the Best Way
The Zzymzzy Quartet isn’t trying to reinvent anything. Their thing is keeping it pure – unamplified, melodic, and swinging the way jazz did in its golden era, from the Prohibition years through the Second World War.
Think Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, the glory days of American music played with real warmth and a healthy sense of humor.
The four musicians behind the sound are Beston Barnett on guitar and vocals, Matt Gill on clarinet, Paul Hormick on upright bass, and Pete Miesner on guitar and lead vocals. Together they bring a loose, joyful energy to every performance – the kind that makes even a first-time listener feel like they’ve been a fan for years.
An Outdoor Setting That’s Hard to Beat
Panama 66 sits right inside Balboa Park at Plaza de Panama, with a sprawling outdoor patio that’s genuinely one of the nicest spots in San Diego on a weekend evening. There’s good food, solid drinks, and plenty of room to settle in and sway along.
The best part? No cover. This is just a great night out at no extra cost, which makes it even easier to round up some friends and make it happen.

A Saturday Evening Worth Savoring
Whether we’re regulars at Panama 66 or haven’t been in a while, a live jazz night like this is a solid reason to head into Balboa Park. The combination of music, setting, and easy-going atmosphere makes it one of those evenings that’s hard to top.
