Discovery Tour

Don’t miss out on the captivating allure of the San Elijo Lagoon, a unique crossroads where fresh and saltwater mingle and a haven for both migratory and resident birds—a spectrum of wildlife calls this sanctuary home.

Join in on Saturday, July 6, from 10 to 11 AM for a family-friendly tour, perfect for ages nine and up.

The guided tour is a golden opportunity to observe and learn about the myriad birds that inhabit and traverse the salt marsh and mudflats. And let’s not forget the abundant wildflowers waiting to be admired and captured in your lens.

Family Fun Day Featuring Franklin the Tortoise

Join the Family Fun Day featuring Franklin the Tortoise on Sunday, July 7, from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. Meet Franklin, who is recovering well from his recent surgery. Learn the difference between a tortoise and a turtle, as well as many other intriguing facts. Then, enjoy hands-on craft-making activities.

Nature gets the spotlight with Nature Collective and San Diego County Parks + Recreation rangers with family-friendly experiences, live presentations, and more.

Every month, Nature Collective features a new topic for all the fun. Each Family Fun Day includes TRACK Trails activity guides. Plus, young ones can earn a Junior Ranger badge. To RSVP, click here.

Wildlife Tour

Mid-summer is a laid-back vacation in San Elijo. Watch a Ridgway’s Rail taking a leisurely dip at the edge of the reeds, enjoy Bushtits playing follow-the-leader through the brush, or cheer on a bumble bee as he tries to find the hidden entrance to a white sage blossom.

But will you see a Skimmer this time? The hunt is half the thrill. Ready for this summer’s wildlife adventure? Join in on Saturday, July 13, from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM in San Elijo Lagoon.
