The Green Room Hotel Debuts In Oceanside

The Green Room Hotel, originally a motel built in the 1940s, has been given a second life as a modernized bungalow-style boutique hotel. Opened in July 2021 by co-owners Stephen and Brett Poovey, The Green Room Hotel is a place for the most diverse, eclectic, creative community members and travelers to come together.

Channeling both the inside of a wave when surfing and the space where musicians relax, the hotel is a getaway intended to be a place where stories can be told, and passions can be shared.

A prime location

Located on the iconic Coast Highway in South Oceanside, the boutique hotel is in a prime location where some of the best restaurants like the popular Dija Mara and Michelin Star-awarded Jeune et Jolie are located just minutes from the property. Nestled between Carlsbad and Oceanside, guests can also access San Diego attractions and destinations like Legoland and the San Diego Safari Park with ease or stay near the beach and discover the energy of the north San Diego coastal towns.

“We are thrilled to share The Green Room Hotel with guests and the local community,” said Stephen Poovey, Co-Owner. “Each element of the property is carefully curated to ensure each guest feels a sense of home and comfort when they walk through their bungalow doors. When my wife, Brett, and I found this forgotten motel during a date night in Oceanside, we knew this would be a very special project. This property has become reminiscent of our favorite places to stay in Montauk and Valle de Guadalupe, where we have made some of our greatest memories. We’re excited to be part of the booming city of Oceanside, partner with local businesses and welcome guests from near and far to create memories of their own within these walls,” said Poovey.

A collaboration with local businesses

Focused on strengthening and amplifying existing community relations in Oceanside and Carlsbad, The Green Room Hotel collaborates with local businesses and highlights them on the property through partnerships, amenities, and activities for guests.

Elevated amenities include a beautiful cedar-style hot tub next to a fire pit and outdoor social area with communal picnic tables to gather post-surf session and relax to a carefully curated playlist. The hotel provides guests with free parking and complimentary morning coffee, donuts and pastries from local bakeries on the weekends.

Grab-and-go surfboards and beach cruisers are available for guests to enjoy, in partnership with Catch Surf and SoCal Bike, as the beach is only a 10-minute walk from the property. The founders have compiled a list of go-to local surf breaks, restaurants and coffee shops onto a map found in each room. Public Goods natural personal care amenities can also be found in each room with sustainable packaging and curated snacks.

To provide guests with the most seamless check-in experience, The Green Room Hotel uses Igloohome smart padlocks allowing guests to use their smartphones as their room keys for contactless check-in.

Both modern and classic

The Green Room Hotel focuses on exuding the property’s classic charm while adding modern design updates through a laid-back California-style lens. With interior design led by local designers, Jessica Tingle, and the co-owner’s sister, Leigh Jendrusina, founder of Salthouse Collective Interior Design & Styling, each room features custom art from local artists, found pieces of mid-century modern furnishings, unique Moroccan rugs, playful bathroom tiling, and in some units, kitchenettes with whimsical touches like retro-style appliances and private patios with outdoor seating.

The property features six studios, five one-bedroom suites, and one two-bedroom suite, each unique with plush interiors, bohemian accents, and one-of-a-kind furnishings and finishes. The grounds are lit with string lighting and outdoor furnishings provide a pop of color against the black exterior of the property.

The Green Room Hotel feels both modern and classic as the integrity of the 1940s property with the thick adobe walls and pitched roofs have remained, but each space has been lightened and brightened with elements and design that speaks to the travelers of today.
