Meet Oceanside’s 2024 Hometown Heroes

As we gear up for the annual Oceanside Independence Parade on Saturday, June 29, MainStreet Oceanside is proud to announce the 2024 Hometown Heroes honorees!

This prestigious annual initiative honors outstanding Oceanside residents who have devoted their time and efforts to volunteer activities that significantly enhance the quality of life in the community.

The 2024 Hometown Heroes Honorees

These heroes have demonstrated exceptional dedication to serving our community. Let’s get to know them!

Vanessa Graziano

Background: Vanessa has been a tireless advocate for the homeless population in Oceanside since 2017. She began her mission with “Love on the Ground Resources” and has since expanded her efforts through various local organizations.

Hometown Heroes at the Oceanside Independence Parade

Impact: Vanessa provides essential services and resources to the homeless community, including meals, hygiene supplies, and support services. Her unwavering commitment has significantly improved the quality of life for many residents.

Nomination Highlight: “I have never met anyone with such vision, determination, and compassion. Vanessa’s work is transforming lives and creating a more inclusive community.”

Mike Tenhover

Background: Mike Tenhover is the San Diego Habitat Conservancy (SDHC) Volunteer Coordinator for the Wanis View Preserve, overseeing more than 40 volunteers. He also volunteers at the SeaCliff Wildlife Preserve and has been recognized as the SDHC Volunteer of the Year.

Oceanside Independence Parade presents Hometown Heroes

Impact: Mike organized volunteers and successfully certified his area for Oceanside’s first FireWise Program. His efforts have significantly enhanced wildfire resilience and the preservation of local wildlife and habitats.

Nomination Highlight: “Mike has made a remarkable difference in our community, fostering greater fire safety, preserving endangered coastal chaparral, and working with the police to address various community issues. His dedication is truly commendable.”

North San Diego County Lions Club

Hometown Heroes

Background: Represented by the club’s dedicated members, this organization has been an integral part of the community, participating in and supporting numerous initiatives.

Impact: The Lions Club’s contributions include providing vision screenings, health services, and disaster relief. Their collective efforts have significantly enhanced the well-being of Oceanside residents.

Nomination Highlight: “The Lions Club exemplifies the spirit of community service. Their inclusive and non-political approach has brought together diverse groups to work towards common goals.”

Honoring these Hometown Heroes reflects MainStreet Oceanside’s commitment to recognizing the selfless acts of courage, kindness, and dedication of the city’s residents.

These local leaders embody the spirit of service and community pride, and their recognition is a highlight of the festivities at the Annual Oceanside Independence Parade, which will be held on Saturday, June 29, from 10 AM to 12 PM.
