La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club Just Got Its Glow-Up (and It’s Everything)

La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club just unveiled the first phase of their $60 million renovation, and their new guest experience is honestly everything we hoped it would be.

They somehow managed to keep everything we’ve always loved about this iconic 90-year-old beachfront retreat while making it feel completely fresh and modern.

That Pool Deck Though

The pool area is basically unrecognizable in the best possible way. We’re talking private cabanas, family lounges, and these gorgeous teak banquettes that make you want to claim a spot and never leave. The whole thing’s framed with honed Calcutta marble and oak-clad rattan that screams California coastal luxury.

But here’s the real star—they installed a wood-fired Marra Forni pizza oven right on the deck. Watching the chefs craft artisanal pies while you’re lounging poolside with ocean views? That’s the kind of multitasking we can get behind.

The striped, scalloped umbrellas and wood-paneled details give the whole space this timeless-meets-today vibe that feels so right.

Dining Gets the Ocean Treatment

The Club Dining Room renovation is stunning. Floor-to-ceiling oceanfront views, roomy booths, and this light, airy palette that basically bottles up California coastal living.

The new menus are hitting all the right notes too—locally caught seafood, those wood-fired pizzas from the pool deck, and dinner entrees that’ll make you rethink your usual spots.

The cocktail menu is pretty clever—they named drinks after the tennis courts and golf course, which sounds cheesy but actually creates this fun sense of place. Plus, you’re sipping these custom creations while staring out at La Jolla Shores Beach, so honestly, they could call them whatever they want.

Market Vibes

The new Club Market is one of those ideas that makes total sense once you see it. Grab-and-go meals, house-made dips, artisan snacks, fresh-baked breads, and premium cuts for cooking in your suite’s kitchen.

They’ve also curated wines, local craft beers, and gourmet provisions that tie into their restaurant offerings. It’s like having a really good specialty market that actually understands what you want.

Celebrating Nine Decades the Right Way

For their 90th anniversary, they created this limited-time package that’s basically a greatest hits of Club traditions. You get to ride in the Old Black Goose—that’s William Scripps Kellogg’s 1915 Packard Twin Six convertible that’s been part of Club lore since the 1950s.

There’s a private beach BBQ setup where you can grill on the sand while watching for the Green Flash at sunset, plus pickleball sessions because apparently that’s the new tennis.

The Anniversary Package includes a night in a Beachfront Suite, commemorative tote, signature cocktails at Walnut Lounge, that historic car ride, the beach BBQ setup, pickleball with paddles, and a 30-minute family photo session.

You need to book at least two weeks ahead, but honestly, this sounds like the kind of experience that’ll become a story you tell for years.

See you there!

This La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club renovation proves their new guest experience is worth the 90-year wait.
