La Valencia Hotel Welcomes New Executive Chef

After nearly a decade of leading kitchens from California’s coast to Colorado, the talented and San Diego rooted chef, Timothy Ralphs, makes his anticipated return home to helm one of the most iconic kitchens in San Diego. THE MED at La Valencia is thrilled to name Ralphs as its Executive Chef, a role perfect for the classically-trained chef known for beautifully plated dishes that impress the eye as well as the palate.

With his Advanced Sommelier and Cicerone certifications under his belt, Ralphs was an obvious choice for THE MED, who hosts some of the city’s most sought-after monthly dining experiences, including the upcoming Wine Dinner Series featuring Ridge Vineyards on August 8.

A culinary grad from Scottsdale Culinary Institute and trained at the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu Paris, Ralphs has worked at some of San Diego’s most notable hotels and restaurants, including Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa, Omni San Diego and Loews Coronado. He has a great appreciation for San Diego’s dining palate, which allows him to mix different cultural flavor profiles with the bounty California’s coast has to offer.

With a panache for light, clean and flavorful dishes, Ralph’s culinary talents blend seamlessly with the cuisine at THE MED. His relationships with local purveyors are strong, and their ingredients shine in each dish he creates. Guests can expect Ralphs menus to stay true to what THE MED is known for – seasonally-driven, California-inspired dishes served in stunning presentations with a touch of whimsy.

See you there!
