Little Italy Hosts Fun Summer Events For All Ages!

Summer in San Diego calls for unbeatable weather, fun outdoor activities and discovering the exciting summer events happening in San Diego’s Little Italy neighborhood!  From dancing the evening away at a popular summer concert to outdoor movies, Little Italy has endless summer fun possibilities for all ages!

Here are a few signature events you won’t want to miss out on!

Little Italy Summer Film Festival: Come Un Gatto Tangenziale

Little Italy Summer Film Festival

Each year the Little Italy Association partners with Cinema Little Italy to show great Italian films (with subtitles) at the Amici Park Amphitheater, located at the corner of West Date and State Streets. Grab a few snacks, bring a blanket and enjoy movies under the stars with friends and family. The Little Italy Summer Film Festival happens every Saturday night of the summer in the charming neighborhood. End of June through August.

First Responder’s Celebration

Honor our County’s first responders at the First Responder’s Celebration in the Piazza della Famiglia. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, San Diego Police Department, San Diego Fire-Rescue Team and San Diego Lifeguards will be recognized at this one-of-a-kind event in August. First responders will be commemorated with blue lights illuminating the Piazza della Famiglia and other event features, which will be announced in the upcoming months.

Ferragosto

Little Italy’s biggest party is setting sell and it’s the final year for visitors and guests to experience Ferragosto—San Diego’s Little Italy own take on the traditional Italian holiday “Feriae Augsti.” This year’s final theme is “Pirates Invade Sicily.” The fun-filled night will be full of food, wine, beer, cocktails, live music, dancing and many surprises! Dress the part at this fundraising event that helps raise money for kid’s scholarships through the Washington Elementary School Foundation and preserve the Little Italy neighborhood’s history. The event takes place on Saturday, August 17 between 6 p.m. and midnight.

Marine Band San Diego Summer Concert

The popular Marine Band San Diego Summer Concert returns to Little Italy to get attendees on their feet and swaying to music from the 40-piece Marine Band, Party Band and the Jazz Band. Locals, visitors and military are encouraged to spend the evening listening to these talented marines in the heart of Little Italy on Saturday, August 3 from 6 p.m. to dusk.

Labor Day Stickball Westcoast Invitational

Watch top stickball teams from New York, Puerto Rico and San Diego compete for San Diego’s most prominent prize, the Jillie Trophy on Saturday, August 31 and Sunday, September 1 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The annual tournament brings the beloved childhood game to the lively, historic community on one weekend.
