Miss Hokusai
From the award-winning director Keiichi Hara and the Japanese powerhouse Production I.G comes the fictionalized story of a young artist, the daughter of Katsushika Hokusai, one of history’s most famous artists whose work served as inspiration for Japanese anime. This exquisitely rendered film, set in 1814 Edo (now Tokyo), presents the life of O’Ei (Miss Hokusai) in a series of vignettes that follow the changing seasons and allow audiences to admire the two artists’ work.
This film is presented in conjunction with a selection of woodblock prints in the recently opened “Visible Vaults.”
