Oceanside’s Historic Brooks Theater Reopens For Youth Summer Camps

After more than a year of having kids locked down at home, parents will be thrilled to hear that Oceanside Theatre Company (OTC), the resident professional theater company at the Historic Brooks Theater, will re-open for its Youth Theater Arts Summer Camp next month.

OTC will kick off Broadway By the Beach, its 2021 Summer Theatre Camp featuring two 2-week camps in June and July that focus on theatre skills such as singing, dancing, acting, and even poetry and choral reading for youth ages 7-17.

Pre-registration is open and details are available online HERE. Classes are filling quickly.

“After all that virtual school, kids need hands-on learning more than ever,” said Carol Naegele, OTC Youth Outreach Director. “Our Broadway By the Beach Summer Camp is a next-level educational program teaching theater skills, as well as teamwork, creativity, and the opportunity to increase self-confidence both onstage and in life.”

Broadway Heroes & Villains

The first camp, Broadway Heroes & Villains, begins June 21 and culminates with an exciting live Broadway cabaret performance on the mainstage of the Brooks Theater at 7:30PM on Friday, July 2 and Saturday, July 3.

Traveling Down Broadway

Traveling Down Broadway is the theme for the second camp starting July 7, with a trip down Broadway memory lane and ending with a Broadway cabaret celebrating hits from the 1930’s till today including selections from Shrek and RENT.

Both Camps run Mondays through Fridays from 9AM. to 3PM at the Brooks Theater, 217 North Coast Highway, Oceanside. Campers may register for one camp or receive a 10% discount for attending both camps. Each camp enrollment is limited to 30 campers.

Camp spots are filling quickly and can be reserved now with a $100 deposit with full tuition due by June 1. Both Broadway cabarets are open to the public and tickets can be purchased on the Oceanside Theatre Company website here.

‘We’re thankful to the community, our donors and patrons, as well as the City and County support we have received, that helped us weather the pandemic storm,” said OTC President John McCoy. “Even though OTC suffered a 90% loss of income last year, we’ve survived, and are ready to get back to providing the live theater, music, and art that our community sorely needs to recover from a challenging year.”
