San Diego Restaurants Adapt To Tumultuous Times
To say that this pandemic has been an overwhelming challenge for San Diego restaurants and bars would be the understatement of the year. They are doing everything they can to survive and serve us for years to come, and they need and deserve our support!
Here’s how some of your favorites are using a combination of outdoor seating, take-out, and delivery as the new recipe for survival.

Breakfast Republic
Breakfast Republic is geared up for the dine-in shut-down at their locations, including extended patio space at the Encinitas outpost into the location’s parking lot – a deal that owner Johan Engman worked out with the landlord of the property. Similarly, he has finalized a partnership with Stone Brewing starting next Tuesday, which will allow Breakfast Republic’s Liberty Station location to use Stone’s courtyard across from the Breakfast Republic entrance.
In return, Breakfast Republic will start carrying their Stone Buenaveza Mexican Lager at all BR locations. Locations in North Park, Ocean Beach and Mission Valley will remain open, and will seat patrons in their existing outdoor patios, while Costa Mesa will stick to only carry-out and delivery for now, and Pacific Beach is working to get approval for outdoor dining in its parking lot.
Fig Tree Café
Fig Tree Café locations in Liberty Station and Pacific Beach will remain open during their usual hours, as much of their seating is already situated outdoors and is set up for social distancing – perfect for fans of their delicious Breakfast Sushi or French toast masterpieces! This eatery also offers takeout and delivery.
North Park Breakfast Company
North Park Breakfast Company will seat guests on their back patio, where limited seating is available – all hours will remain the same at this local breakfast staple, and takeout and delivery options are available as well!
Union Kitchen & Tap Encinitas
Union Kitchen & Tap Encinitas features an extended patio with plenty of room for social distancing, as well as carryout and delivery options. The location is open seven days a week, so you can still enjoy their flavorsome modern American creations and cocktails when you need them most!
Backyard Kitchen & Tap
Backyard Kitchen & Tap expanded their patio to include a Sideyard after the first round of shut-downs – the Sideyard addition is open Tuesday through Sunday, featuring food from the Union Food Truck, while Backyard’s existing patio space is open all week. If carryout and delivery better suit your fancy, you’re in luck – Backyard is fully equipped to bring your favorites to you.
Pacific Beach AleHouse
Pacific Beach AleHouse is ready to serve San Diego safely with their Sky Deck, patio and parking lot seating fully open and set up to meet all safety guidelines. You can still grab a burger and beer by the ocean seven days a week, folks! You can also swing by for carryout or order delivery through their website.
The Original 40 Brewing
North Park’s neighborhood brewery, The Original 40 Brewing, will be open for patio dining, carryout and delivery Monday through Thursday from 2:00pm to 9:00pm, Friday from 2:00pm to 10:00pm, Saturday from 10:30am to 10:00pm and Sunday from 10:30am to 9:00pm.
The Taco Stand
Taco fiends can still get their fill at The Taco Stand with outdoor seating and carryout at their Encinitas and North Park locations, as well as carryout at their Downtown and La Jolla locations.
Cloak & Petal
Little Italy’s Cloak & Petal will host outdoor dining Fridays from 3:00pm to 10:00pm, and Saturday through Sunday from 1:00pm to 10:00pm.
Stay healthy, San Diego!
