Dora Brings Sicilian Soul to La Jolla This Fall
Dora, a vibrant new Southern Italian restaurant from the husband-and-wife team behind Cori Trattoria, is set to open in La Jolla’s Theater District this fall—and it’s shaping up to be one of the season’s most exciting arrivals.
Inspired by Chef Accursio Lota’s Sicilian roots and named in honor of his grandmother, Dora blends soulful cooking with story-driven design and a touch of theatrical charm.
Just steps from the La Jolla Playhouse, Dora will serve elevated coastal Italian cuisine in a space designed to celebrate connection, tradition, and performance. The menu will showcase house-made everything—pastas, breads, and gelato—all rooted in the fresh, seafood-forward flavors of Southern Italy.

An Artful Space Built for Storytelling and Community
The design, led by acclaimed West Coast studio Bells + Whistles (Jeune et Jolie, Animae), sets the stage for a one-of-a-kind dining experience. Expect Nonna-chic maximalism, warm Mediterranean hues, and layers of handcrafted textures that transport you from the coast of San Diego to a seaside village in Sicily.
Highlights include:
- A Campari-toned oval bar surrounded by chestnut-stained oak and unlacquered brass accents
- Mosaic tile floors, custom furnishings, and theatrical lighting touches throughout
- A 1,200-square-foot patio perfect for al fresco dining
- A 16-seat private dining room designed for intimate celebrations

More Than a Meal—A Celebration of Culture
Dora isn’t just about food—it’s about experience. With a pre-theater dining program inspired by the La Jolla Playhouse’s rotating performances, and a guest journey that nods to storytelling, Dora is designed to be a cultural hub as much as a culinary destination.

Dora brings heart, heritage, and handmade Southern Italian cuisine to the La Jolla community. Whether it’s your new go-to for a cozy pasta night or a pre-show dinner spot, get ready to fall in love with this soulful newcomer.
