Your Guide To This Week’s North County Concerts

This week, what is old is new and what is new is a #throwback. Check out old sounds reimagined and new groups with old souls. Listening to these bands, I just know what decade we’re in—but I know the best is yet to come.

Lotus – 2/2

The Belly Up

Solana Beach

If you like The Talking Heads, Jamiroquai and LCD Soundsystem, then Lotus is right up your alley. They bring together electronic music with rock ‘n roll, R&B plus digital or maybe synth riffs & sonic strings?

Any way you slice and dice them, Lotus is a welcome fusion of soulful sensibilities and modern sounds.

Lotus has played festivals such as Bonnaroo, Outside Lands, Ultra and Electric Forest, making them a popular act around the festival circuit.

Catch’em at a venue that isn’t surrounded by tents while you can.

Lowell Levinger – 2/3

Brick 15

Del Mar

Lowell Levinger might be better well-known as Banana from The Youngbloods. The song “Come Together” served as a rallying cry for protesters and the hippie-era at large.

Levinger gives a bluegrass makeover to old tracks by the Youngbloods on his album “Get Together – Banana Recalls Youngbloods Classics.”

Check out some old favorites, picked clean.

Wish & The Well – 2/3

Pour House

Oceanside

These alt-country blues-rockers play music “from the heart” influenced by “life’s ups and downs.” San Diego locals, Wish & The Well are right at home in this North County venue.

Catch them at Pour House’s intimate stage.

Animal Liberation Orchestra – 2/4

The Belly Up

Solana Beach

Santa Barbara’s Animal Liberation Orchestra, or “ALO,” has been going strong for over two decades.

Signed to Jack Johnson’s Brushfire Records, ALO has the pleasure of inviting Johnson onto a few re-recorded tracks of their older material.

Their 2015 album “Tangle of Time” has more of their feel-good, psychedelic pop-rock for you to enjoy.

Fanny & The Attaboys – 2/4

Pour House

Oceanside

Fanny & The Attaboys play a mixture of American roots, country swing, depression-era jazz and classic blues stylings. The band’s acoustic stringed instruments complement Fanny’s unique voice.

It’s a match made in heaven when the band kicks in and Fanny pipes up. This old-timey string band is sure to put Pour House’s dancefloor to good use.
