Your Guide To This Week’s San Diego Concerts

These groups are all good at what they do. In fact, they’re so good, they’ve all won awards. Be it a Grammy, a Bay Area award, or another critical music publication, awards gild the musicians moving through San Diego this week. It’s your time to be a connoisseur.

Clean Bandit – 4/7

The Observatory

North Park

Clean Bandit makes electronic dance music with a pop twist. Teaming with artists such as Sean Paul and Zara Larsson, Clean Bandit adds the fresh vocals to catchy beats.

And it has paid off—the group won the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording in 2015 for the track “Rather Be” featuring Jess Glynne.

Now’s your chance to see Clean Bandit while the group is on this side of the pond. Otherwise, you might have to trek to the UK to hear this sweet, sweet music.

Andre Nickatina – 4/7

The Music Box

Little Italy

Outside of being a hip hop force of nature, Andre Nickatina is also an award-winning MC and producer, winning 2005 Bay Area Artist of The Year and Album of The Year for Bullets.

Nickatina’s uncanny ability to produce albums on the pulse of hip hop trends keeps him an ever-growing and versatile artist in the industry. He has left a distinct mark on hip hop since he started releasing albums in 1993.

Catch some hip hop history in the making at The Music Box.

The Damned – 4/7

The House of Blues

Downtown San Diego

The Damned was post-punk when punk was still punk back in ’76. Shifting towards Goth Rock, The Damned started a scene of listeners in dark clothes, makeup and macabre sensibilities.

The band is still going strong, releasing a three volume 35 year anniversary album entitled 35 Years Of Anarchy, Chaos And Destruction.

If you haven’t had an opportunity to see The Damned before, the time is now.

San Diego Beer and Music Festival – 4/8

Port Pavilion on Broadway Pier

Downtown San Diego

Beer and music—a match made in heaven. Come down to the San Diego Beer and Music Festival to see Faux Fighters, a Foo Fighters tribute band, and Match Box Two Twenty, another tribute band but for Match Box Twenty.

DJ sets by Bass Punks and Eddey Metal Hands will round out the scheduled musical acts.

Sip some suds, sample some sounds.

Funk’s Most Wanted – 4/8

Humphreys Backstage Music Club

Shelter Island

Playing everything from Funk and top 40, to Jazz, Soft Rock as well as R&B, Funk’s Most Wanted aims to bring a crowd to its feet. If one person isn’t moving and grooving, FMW feels it has failed.

This summer, the group plans to release a CD of originals—we can’t wait.
