Your Guide To This Week’s San Diego Concerts

It’s all about reggae and surf rock this week in San Diego. Whether it’s a reggae-lite songstress or surf rock from another country, San Diego has you covered. Feel the love this weekend—just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Anuhea – 2/10

Music Box

Little Italy

“Anuhea” is Hawaiian for “cool breeze,” fitting for the Maui-born singer/songwriter’s refreshing sound. She mixes reggae with pop to create catchy songs supported by the ukulele.

This show is a benefit concert for the Kaua’I Humane Society, benefitting the animals who won’t break your heart this Valentine’s Day.

SOJA – 2/11

Observatory

North Park

SOJA (Soldiers Of Jah Army) is a Grammy-nominated reggae band from Arlington, Virginia.  After releasing Peace in a Time of War in 2002, SOJA then released a Dub version of the album in 2005 titled Dub in a Time of War.

Always exploring the different avenues of reggae music, SOJA is not an act to be missed.

The Ziggens  – 2/11

Merrow

Hillcrest

The Ziggens are a “cowpunksurfabilly” band from Orange County. What does that mean? A heavy dose of tasty jams for your ears.

Contemporaries of Sublime, The Ziggens have been filling Southern California with love since the early ‘90s.

Wake up and smell their set at the Merrow.

Boogarins – 2/11

Soda Bar

City Heights

Brazilians, The Boogarins, bring a different tongue to psychedelic surf rock. Their name comes from a jasmine flower found in Brazil.

They released their debut album As Plantas Que Curam (The Plants That Heal) in 2013 and followed up with their 2015 Manual ou Guia Livre de Dissolução dos Sonhos (Manual or Free Guide to Dissolution of Dreams).

See them while they’re stateside at Soda Bar.

Creepy Creeps – 2/11

The Casbah

Little Italy

The Creepy Creeps is a garage surf-rock band straight out of San Diego that believes every concert should truly be an event. If you took the theme song for The Munsters and added some danger, you’d be close to what The Creepy Creeps sound like.

Their high-energy performances are filled with exuberant showmanship. Every time you see The Creepy Creeps, you will see go-go dancers. It’s just part of their charm.

With groovy tunes that will get you moving, just try to hit this show and stay off of your feet.
