Your Guide To This Week’s San Diego Concerts

We have classic acts from the early ‘90s and ‘00s as well as some fresh faces gracing San Diego this week. Try a sampling of time-tested favorites and promising up-and-comers. You won’t regret any of it.

Potty Mouth and Partybaby – 3/24

Ché Café

La Jolla

Potty Mouth is a trio out of Massachusetts that plays pop rock, but this isn’t your typical bubblegum pop. These girls like to add a healthy dose of spice to their sugar—and there is sugar buried in that garage rock.

Partybaby sprinkles garage rock flavoring onto its pop punk. This Partybaby has a potty mouth—and you’re going to love it.

Common – 3/24

The Observatory

North Park

Since his debut in 1992, Common has been anything but his namesake. His underground hip hop went mainstream, winning him the first of multiple Grammys in 2003.

His music has not been limited to the aural realm: Common won an Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song in 2015. The song? “Glory” featured in 2014’s Selma.

Here’s your chance to hear this award-winning hip hop artist in-person.

Fu Manchu – 3/24

The Casbah

Little Italy

Despite its ever-changing line-up, Fu Manchu has provided a consistent stream of stoner metal since 1990. Originating from Orange County, Fu Manchu returns to Southern California and its old stomping grounds for a show at The Casbah.

If you’re aching for Stone Temple Pilots with more bite, then Fu Manchu might be just what the doctor orders.

The Main Squeeze – 3/25

Soda Bar

City Heights

From its beginnings as an Indiana University part band, The Main Squeeze has become much more than music to drink to. After moving to Los Angeles, the group’s sound matured through the change of locale, blending hip hop, soul, funk and rock to create music with texture.

April 28 will see the release of the band’s album entitled Without a Sound. Without a doubt, there will be sounds to please you, courtesy of The Main Squeeze.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah – 3/25

The Casbah

Little Italy

Formed after its members met at Connecticut College, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah began playing throughout Brooklyn and Manhattan. Besides favorable reviews from critics, CYHSY had David Bowie and David Byrne hanging around some of its shows. Can’t get much better than that.

Last year, the group re-released its inaugural album in celebration of its 10 year anniversary. Continue the celebration this year at The Casbah.
