In Comes The San Diego Triathlon Classic

It’s hard to believe the San Diego Triathlon Classic started only in 2009. Since then, the epic race has made quite the name for itself rallying over 6,500 participants.

The goal of this race is to challenge each participant and have them leave with a feeling of accomplishment – but also an appreciation for all that San Diego has to offer.

And this year, the tradition goes on!

Race Details – Saturday, September 9th

The race itself starts on Saturday, September 9th at 6 a.m. at NTC Park in Liberty Station. Before that, at 5 a.m., the transition will open so that competitors can set up their bikes and other equipment.

If you are coming from far away and don’t want to travel with your bike, no worries! There is a selection of bike rentals for all participants.

Also, there are two different courses, olympic and sprint. Olympic is a bit longer with a 1,500m swim, a 40K bike and a 10K run.

If that sounds like a bit much for you, but you still want to be part of the race, there’s a sprint course with a 750m swim, a 22K bike, and a 5K run.

Sports & Fitness Expo – Friday, September 8th

If you are interested in getting more information, a good idea is to visit the Sports & Fitness Expo the day before the race. There you’ll have the opportunity to talk to directors and other competitors at 2816 Historic Decatur Road.

Other Ways To Get Involved

There are few ways you can get involved in triathlon other than competing. If you are volunteer enthusiast, this is a great opportunity for you. Your job won’t be too hard and yet, you’ll meet amazing people and have fun.

There are volunteer slots for everything, from pre-race to post-race needing to be filled.

For companies who are interested in becoming sponsors, there’s something for them too. Each sponsorship placement depends on the level of sponsorship and relevancy.

This race is amazing to watch, too, so if you just want to be a spectator, here are the best positions:

  • Swim – water canal adjacent to Liberty Station
  • Bike – streets of Point Loma
  • Run – Liberty Station

Keep in mind there’s also a free parking (see map below).

Post race

Athletes, families, friends, volunteers, and spectators are invited to join the post-race festival. It will be located by the finish line in the NTC Park.

Also, there’s a small surprise for each triathlete who finishes the race – with an awards ceremony expected to begin at promptly 10 a.m.

If you want to compete, you can register online here.

Good luck everyone!
