Play Chess, Catan, and UNO With Dogs at Boards & Barks in North Park
San Diego Humane Society cared for 766 adult dogs in August, the highest number the organization has ever had in its care at once. This Saturday in North Park, San Diego Chess & Social and Pure Pawsh are turning a night of board games into a donation.

Catan, Cards Against Humanity, and a Dog Under the Table
Pure Pawsh on 30th Street is handing over its space for Boards & Barks, an evening of chess, UNO, backgammon, Catan, Cards Against Humanity, and whatever else makes it onto the tables. More than 100 people are expected. So are their dogs.
You don’t need to own a dog, and you don’t need to know how a knight moves. The club brings the games and the people to play them with. Show up alone, with friends, or with your pup, and the rest sorts itself out at the table.

100% of Your Ticket Goes Straight to the Dogs
Every dollar from ticket sales is donated to San Diego Humane Society. Not a portion, not proceeds after expenses. All of it.
“San Diego Humane Society does extraordinary work, and we wanted to find a way for our community to support it,” said Mark Laturno, co-founder and CEO of San Diego Chess & Social.
“If we can bring a hundred people together for a great night and raise money for animals in need, that’s a pretty wonderful use of what we’ve built.”
From a Reddit Post to 400 San Diegans a Week
San Diego Chess & Social started in 2023 when two strangers met on Reddit looking for people to play chess with. Three years later, it runs six weekly meetups across Pacific Beach, Chula Vista, Encinitas, Vista, and North Park, with more than 600 members and roughly 400 San Diegans showing up every week.
That’s a lot of people to aim at one cause, and this weekend they’re aiming it at the Humane Society.
