The San Diego Museum of Art has opened its new exhibition “Modern Masters from Latin America: The Pérez Simón Collection” to the public – and this is one that shouldn’t be missed!
This is a rare opportunity to see a collection the likes of which you’d normally expect to have to fly to New York, Paris or Tokyo to experience!

This exhibition charts a trajectory from the late 1800s to the first decade of this century, showcasing the work of seminal figures from countries including Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Peru, Brazil, and Uruguay.
The collection makes its way to San Diego thanks to the generosity of Pérez Simón (and of course the very hard work of the team at San Diego Museum of Art), a Mexican businessman who began collecting art in his 20’s, and now has over 3,000 works in his personal collection.
This exhibit is approximately 100 paintings from his collection, arranged in three sections—Landscape and Identity, The Avant-Garde Explosion, and Breaking Boundaries: Post 1960s Diversity & Dystopia – giving viewers a fascinating look at the diversity of various influence on Latin American artists, and of the incredible scope of Simón’s collection.
