Hillcrest Gets Three Hot New Eateries At The Hub Hillcrest Market

First-to-market Maestoso and second locations of two San Diego ethnic favorites, Nishiki Ramen and Poke Subarashi, are new dining options at The Hub Hillcrest Market this spring.

Maestoso

Created by internationally recognized chef/owner Marco Maestoso and his partner, Dalila Ercolani, Maestoso will open in April. In 2015, the pair opened their first restaurant, Ristorante Casa Maestoso, in Rome, Italy. Maestoso has trained with Michelin-star chefs and studied at Gambero Rosso, the globally recognized culinary school in Rome, Italy.

Maestoso’s 2,200-square-foot interior seats 60 and features an open kitchen with fresh pasta made on-site daily. The restaurant will also have a wrap-around patio on University Avenue with additional seating for up to 30 diners.

Nishiki Ramen

The popular Japanese ramen eatery opened its first stateside location in San Diego in 2015. Owner Mike Furuichi’s popular and authentic ramen will be served at his second location, slated to open at The Hub Hillcrest in late spring.

The 2,100-square-foot interior seats 70 and, in keeping with tradition, has dedicated space to its on-site noodle room, which houses a custom machine that produces two thicknesses of noodles using organic whole wheat flour.

Poke Subarashi

Opening its second location, Poke Subarashi is feeding the country’s growing poke craving. Mentions of poke on U.S. restaurant menus have increased 90 percent from four years ago, and significantly, more than 35 million Americans have tried poke, according to food industry market research firm Datassential.
