WhipHand American Brasserie + Beer Bank Officially Opens Its Doors

WhipHand, the American Brasserie + Beer Bank with the curious name, has officially opened its doors in East Village, serving simple cuisine with hearty portions meant to be shared, a lineup of innovative cocktails, and of course, beer!

The Name

It’s an unusual name…so what’s it all about? The name was picked to reflect that their concept is all about letting customers take the experience into their own hands, mainly though the usage of their self-serve beer bank, pouring and tasting at will. We dig it.

The Space

The 2,000 square foot space, styled after the traditional French brasseries found across Europe, showcases a sleek, contemporary look that also allows the industrial framework of the building to shine through. Small tables line the quaint front patio for outdoor dining, while white brick and wrought iron fixtures take precedence once you step through the doors. WhipHand features an open-kitchen concept that gives diners a sneak peek at their meal being prepared.

Serving American Staples With A Twist

At the root of their menu, you’ll find classic American staples meant to be shared. At its heart, this is a neighborhood spot where locals and visitors alike could gather and have delicious food served along side their many draft beers.

But they’ve done some fun, distinctive twists that take the experience from basic to unique.

The cocktail menu stands out. Rob McShea, part owner and bar director, shares his inspiration:

“With the WhipHand cocktail menu I wanted to tie all of the elements of the concept together while keeping it fun and void of pretense. The menu is broken down into 3 categories where whips are related into classes of cars, as they are in pop culture. For example, the first category Topless Whips, or convertible cars, or for our purposes sessionable, “patio pounders.”

“Big Body Whips refers to large antique sedans, or spirit forward in cocktail terms. The last category Beer Delivery Whips, or beer trucks, contain elements of beer, including reductions, etc. This ties in the beer centric, beer bank concept of the restaurant.”

Open for Business!

WhipHand will be open Sunday through Thursday, from 11:00 a.m. to midnight and Friday and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. The restaurant is located at 935 J Street, San Diego, CA 92101.

Grab your crew and make a plan to check it out for great food, a friendly vibe, and plenty of beer and cocktails to get the night rolling.

See you there!
