Culture & Cocktails: Abstract Revolution

The San Diego Museum of Art celebrates the ‘Abstract Revolution’ with the popular sundown series, Culture & Cocktails.

Women Who Empowered a Movement

‘Abstract Revolution’ builds upon the great efforts that have been made in recent years to reevaluate the development of Abstract Expressionism in relation to women’s contributions.

Drawn entirely from the Museum’s collection of works on paper, the work of pivotal artists including Lee Krasner, Elaine de Kooning, Helen Frankenthaler, and Deborah Remington as well as the work of contemporary artist Mary Heilmann, a leading figure in abstract American art, are brought together to demonstrate that the masculine lens through which abstraction has been previously understood – through the work of artists like Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, and Mark Rothko, whose reputations have reached heroic heights – must be removed.

A Different Museum Experience

We are huge fans of the Culture & Cocktails series because it gives you the opportunity to experience the museum in a different way: a party!

For the evening the museum is transformed into a celebration complete with beats by DJ Amanda Malcolm-Brown, bites from Napizza, and cocktails made with SVEDKA Clementine Vodka and pineapple,  from Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse

You’ll also be able to capture the fun in pictures in the Rainbow Exposure Photo booth by CEG Interactive, with a swag station provided by event sponsors HHJ Trial Attorneys

And if you want to express your artistic side, you can get into character with Abstract Expressionist inspired makeup and face paint, play with color and create spectacular designs with spin art, and even design your own bandanna to wear and take home

These events are always a great time – don’t miss it!
