Dance Through Every Fitz and The Tantrums Hit at Belly Up
Some bands spend a whole career chasing one song everybody knows. Fitz and The Tantrums have a handful of them, and they are bringing every one to a stage in Solana Beach.
The band is billing this one as a Greatest Hits Show, which means a Wednesday night at Belly Up built entirely around the songs that made them.
No deep-cut homework required. Watching a group that has sold out The Forum and Red Rocks Amphitheatre do it inside a Solana Beach club is the whole reason to care about this one.
HandClap, The Walker, and Four Billion Streams
“HandClap” is 4x platinum. “Out of My League” is 3x platinum. “The Walker” went platinum, “Moneygrabber” went gold, and the catalog as a whole sits just shy of four billion streams.
You have also heard these songs without meaning to. They have scored films on Netflix and campaigns for Sunchips, Xfinity, Walmart, Sofi, and Norwegian Cruise Line. A greatest hits set from a band like that means you will know the chorus before the first verse is over.
Two Voices, a Saxophone, and a Lot of Bounce
Michael “Fitz” Fitzpatrick and Noelle Scaggs share the front of the stage, backed by James King on saxophone and flute, Jeremy Ruzumna on keyboards, and Joseph Karnes on bass. That lineup is the whole sound in one sentence: pop structure, soul phrasing, a little indie edge, and a rhythm section built for dancing.
They have been at this since 2008, from Pickin’ up the Pieces in 2010 through More Than Just A Dream, the gold-certified self-titled record in 2016, and All the Feels in 2019. Let Yourself Free followed in 2022 with “Sway” and “Moneymaker,” and the Perfect Holiday EP closed out 2023.
See you there!
Wednesday nights do not usually come with a horn section and a room full of people shouting every chorus. This one does. Bring the friends who will dance.
