January Happenings At ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station
ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station is kicking off 2021 with new activities to keep everyone connected. Start writing your memoir, learn a new skill during a variety of arts and crafts classes, and check out the stunning new art installation. There is something for everyone and so much more all month long.
INSTALLATIONS AT THE STATION
Located between Moniker General and The Presley, the latest addition to Installations at the Station was created by artist James Armenta in partnership with Intuit.
“James has as longtime history in Liberty Station having attended High Tech High through his middle and high school years,” says Lisa Johnson, President & CEO of NTC Foundation. “This mural serves as a symbol of hope to the arts community and we are thrilled to feature this mural alongside our many other public art installations located throughout ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station.”
The untitled mural uses maritime signal flags and dazzle camouflage. For many years maritime signal flags have been used as a system of communication between vessels. However, dazzle camouflage was a pattern used by ships in both World Wars. The bold, staggered stripes shield a ship’s direction and speed from enemies. This mural was created as part of Intuit’s “We Care and Give Back” program which gives employees 32 hours each year to volunteer their time, talent, and resources to further the causes close to their hearts.
WINTER MUSIC SESSION FOR KIDS
Songbirds Music has begun their winter session of interactive classes for children. Along with weekly classes, enrollment includes a virtual “Songs for You” house call, song book and music download, and access for parents to a closed Facebook Group with weekly bonus content to keep the fun going. Sign your child up for classes including Music Together, Canta y Baila Conmigo, and Rhythm Kids. Plus, new parents can sign up for an interactive class to introduce the love of music to their babies.
