Artist Nahla Valdez Presents “Are You Really Here?” For Third “Curator-in-Residence” Show

Art, Power, Equity will present the artwork of artist Nahla Valdez in a performance art show featuring works that showcase her background knowledge in set design, film and music video direction. The show will be an immersive art experience that stimulates the senses.

Exhibition schedule

Valdez’s “Are You Really Here?” exhibition continues on Aug. 21 at the office of J. Walcher Communications, located at 1940 Market St, San Diego, CA 92102. Doors open at 8PM and performances begin at 9PM. “Are You Really Here?” will continue next Saturday, offering a unique cast of co-creators to participate, resulting in a different experience with each scheduled performance.

“We moved houses a lot when I was growing up. I’ve never lived in a place longer than five years, so that reinforces my belief that we’re all products of our environment. My work uses all five senses to explore the different versions of ourselves we experience and perceive through travel, living and being,” said Valdez. “I want people to be able share a sensory experience that involves smell, taste and touch just as much as seeing and hearing, perhaps even more so.”

This weekend’s theme: Ovulation

In this weekend’s exhibition, a brand-new experience will open its doors to the public under the theme of Ovulation. Ripping away the narrow patriarchal viewpoint of this stage of a menstrual cycle, which solely focuses on fertility and pregnancy, Valdez invites the audience to see its sensual, sexual and creative aspects.

Tickets can be purchased at Eventbrite for $22.20, which includes food and drinks.
