City Tacos Sells Three Millionth Taco

City Tacos, a Mexican eatery founded by Gerry Torres in North Park in 2014, just surpassed a major milestone in their ninth year in business – three million tacos sold in San Diego County!

That’s amazing!

One City Taco per resident

City Tacos currently has six San Diego locations: East Village (Ballpark), Encinitas, La Mesa, North Park, Pacific Beach, and Sorrento Valley.

With roughly 3.3 million people in the County, the milestone averages to nearly one taco per resident.

“I just happened to stumble across this fun milestone while going through my records,” Torres said. “While I certainly can’t say that all San Diegans have had a City Taco taco, I am proud that my vision and passion has extended to nearly the same number as the population here. I am forever grateful to the loyal following of our great patrons through the years. The upcoming National Taco Day will be a little extra special this year.”

National Taco Day is next Tuesday, October 4.

San Diego’s best taco?

You risk a fight in San Diego when you proclaim that “X restaurant has the best tacos in San Diego”, but City Tacos is many San Diegans’ top choice!

City Tacos has won Best Taco accolades from Ranch&Coast’s survey of its readers for three years in a row beginning in 2020.

City Tacos also won Best Cheap Eats – Critic’s Pick honors from San Diego Magazine’s 2022 Best Restaurants list. It also took home Best Taco – Runner-Up from the readers of the publication.

City Tacos on September 14 was featured on Real Simple magazine’s website with a recipe for Taco Placero with Cactus Salad here.

The City Tacos menu features traditional tacos (pollo asado, carnitas, carne asada), caseros “homestyle” tacos (pulled pork with mayan achiote sauce, beef shank, mahi mahi), and several other meat, seafood, and vegetarian options.
