Matsu Japanese Restaurant Launches Monthly Pop-up, Tsuki
Helmed by Chef/owner Willam Eick, Oceanside’s elevated, modern Japanese restaurant concept Matsu recently launched a monthly pop-up — Tsuki — with its second in the series happening on Tuesday, June 27th.
Paying homage to Japanese nightlife
Tsuki (moon in Japanese), pays homage to izakaya nightlife which plays a significant role in Japanese culture.
Comparable to tapas bars, izakayas offer a unique social experience where guests can enjoy a wide assortment of small plates and drinks in a more casual atmosphere. Traditionally, izakayas serve as social hubs where sharing and communal dining is at the forefront.
Tsuki will showcase a variety of dishes that blend Japanese technique with SoCal’s local produce, all embracing a minimalist approach that lets the ingredients speak for themselves.
Tsuki Menu Highlights
- Smoked Gyoza | Truffle Gyoza Sauce
- Pork | Japanese Curry, Cabbage
- Teriyaki Karaage | Burnt Onion Mayo, Green Onion
- Beef Tartare | A5, Rayu Cabbage
- Matcha | Kokuto, “Moffle,” Pine
Pair the bites with wines or sake from the extensive program curated by Wine Director Chaos Rexilius and Sake Somm Kim Roxas and cocktails from Bar Director Rowland Silva.
Highlights include:
- Koi (Mezcal | Aperol | Berry | Carrot | Egg White)
- Kitsune (Gin | Honey | Yuzu)
- Hotei (Cashew Pineapple Gum | Jamaican Potstill Rum | Sudachi)

Tsuki is yet another extension of Matsu’s diverse offerings, allowing guests an opportunity to experience Matsu with a full bar and specialty menu. Tsuki complements Matsu’s current omakase offerings, 10-course and the newly introduced 6-course tasting menu, specialized Chef Counter experiences, and walk-ins for the à la carte bar menu and drinks.
Matsu’s Tsuki will occur monthly and is on a first come, first serve basis with no reservation required.
