Roll up Your Sleeves and Cook the Cover for Edible San Diego

Edible San Diego, the leading voice for local stories on regenerative food and community, is thrilled to announce the launch of its second annual Cook the Cover contest.

This contest offers residents throughout San Diego County the unique chance to have their original recipe professionally tested, styled, and showcased on the cover of issue 75 of Edible San Diego, set to publish in Fall 2024.

Introduced in 2023, Cook the Cover is Edible San Diego’s annual celebration of community through a shared love of food. Readers across San Diego County are invited to submit recipes with stories about the families, communities, places, or events that make their recipe meaningful.

Three finalists are chosen by guest chef judges, with one winning recipe featured on the cover. Groceries used for the recipe testing and styling are generously sponsored by Jimbo’s.

Last year’s winning recipe, a soul-warming Onion Pie Casserole, emerged as a favorite among the judges for its simplicity and wide appeal. Submitted by local resident Amy Cunningham, it’s a cherished family-favorite passed down from her mother-in-law.

“Recipes are like family heirlooms, preserving the traditions and flavors that shape who we are,” said Katie Stokes, Publisher and Editor in Chief of Edible San Diego magazine.

“In San Diego County, with its diverse cultural tapestry, food is a powerful means to connect and celebrate our shared humanity. Through Cook the Cover, we’re eager to inspire fun times in the kitchen and around the table with local families’ most beloved recipes.”

See you there!

The 2024 Cook the Cover contest is now open for submissions and is free to enter for all residents of San Diego County. Participants are invited to submit an original family recipe and its accompanying story by visiting here.

The deadline for entries is May 31, 2024, with selected finalists notified in June 2024. The winning recipe will be featured on the cover of issue 75 of Edible San Diego, set to publish on September 1, 2024.
